Volunteers come out for Cleanup Day
The Southeast Darlington Revitalization Committee held a Cleanup Day Oct. 9 in the Jordan Street area, and volunteers enjoyed a hot dog lunch before taking up their gloves and trash bags and combing the neighborhood for litter.
The Darlington Fire Department joined in the effort, checking neighborhood homes for fire safety and installing free 10-year smoke alarms where needed.
This Cleanup Day ties in to the Community Development Block Grant program which awarded the City of Darlington $500,000 to revitalize the southeast Darlington area with stormwater improvements, sidewalks and lighting, exterior home repairs, and neighborhood engagement programs like Crime Watches and fire safety training.
