Tech Stingers continue winning streak by sweeping Southeastern CC

The Florence-Darlington Technical College Stingers swept Southeastern Community College 10-6 and 10-4 in North Carolina Feb. 27 and 12-2 and 10-0 at home Feb. 28. In the first game, the Tech Stingers trailed Southeastern CC 5-1 throughout the first five innings; however, they tacked eight runs onto the scoreboard in the sixth inning and another run in the seventh. Southeastern CC only answered back with another run in the sixth, solidifying the 10-6 victory for the Tech Stingers. Drake Thames won the game on the mound as he pitched five innings. Thames allowed five runs and seven hits. Braxton Elms entered the game in relief. At the plate, Scott McDonough went 2-for-4 as he blasted two home runs and earned 4 RBI. Andre Demetral went 2-for-3 in the batter’s box, knocking a home run and earning 2 RBI. Gary Lora also hit a home run in the game as well. Cristian Varona had two hits, and DJ Sullivan earned a hit, as well. The Tech Stingers took the lead early in the second game of the doubleheader. The Tech Stingers were up 3-0 on the top of the third inning, but Southeastern CC answered back with three runs as well. In the fifth inning, the Tech Stingers tacked on two more runs, followed by two additional runs in the sixth and three runs in the seventh. Southeastern CC only scored another run in the bottom of the sixth inning. Jorge Oleaga won on the mound as he pitched for four innings. Oleaga allowed five hits and three runs. Jake Cothran and Trey Thacker pitched out of the bullpen. Cothran earned the save as he earned the final seven out. McDonough recorded the Tech Stingers’ lone home run in the game. McDonough went 2-for-4 with 2 RBI. Gary Lora went 3-for-4 at the plate, earning two doubles, 2 RBI and a run. Sullivan went 2-for-5 with a run. Luke Wood also went 2-for-5, scoring twice and earning an RBI. Patrick Baggett and Patrick Matthews each had a hit as well. Baggett scored a run, and Matthews scored two runs and earned a RBI. Next day, Southeastern CC traveled to Florence to play the Tech Stingers. In the 12-2 victory, the Tech Stingers jumped out to 2-0 lead in the second inning and all but solidified the win the third inning as they answered Southern CC’s two runs with seven of their own. The Tech Stingers ended the game by scoring three runs in the bottom of the sixth. Nathan Williams won the game on the mound for the Tech Stingers. In five innings, he allowed three hits and two runs. Landon Mills pitched an inning in relief. Chandler Woolridge knocked the Tech Stingers’ only home run in the second inning. He went 2-for-3 at the plate. Matthews went 2-for-2 with a run and a RBI. Lora went 2-for-4 with a run and 2 RBI. Demetral, Luke Wood and McDonough all had a hit as well. The Tech Stingers concluded the double, doubleheader by defeating Southeastern CC 10-0 at home. The team scored four runs in the third inning, followed by two in the fifth and four in the sixth. Jacob Greer won the game as he pitched five perfect innings. He struck out seven batters while on the mound. Matt Poston pitched the sixth inning as he came out of the bullpen in relief. Corum, Woolridge and Lora all hit home runs throughout the game. Demetral and Jackson Hoshour had two hits and two runs. McDonough had a hit and a run, too.
