Tech Stingers clinch No. 1 seed in Region 10 Tournament
The Florence-Darlington Technical College baseball team clinched the No. 1 seed in Region 10 after sweeping USC Salkehatchie (8-4, 5-2, 3-0 and 3-1) Saturday and Sunday on the road.
The Stingers kicked off the four-game series on Saturday with an 8-4 win. Mullins’ Weston Rogers earned the win as he pitched for 4.2 innings, striking out four batters and allowing seven hits and three runs. Latta’s Jackson Williams was 3-for-4 with two homeruns. Cross Holfert was 3-for-4 with two doubles. Michael Elijah, Dax Roper and Harrison Hawkins of Bishopville each added two hits.
Mark Leonard earned the win on the mound in the 5-2 victory in the second game on Saturday. Leonard pitched for six innings as he struck out five batters and allowed only two hits. Dillon’s Josh Price earned the save. Holfert was 2-for-4 at the plate. Gabe Austin added a homerun, and Florence’s Grayson Cottingham had a three RBI double.
During the first game on Sunday, the Tech Stingers held USC Salkehatchie scoreless in the 3-0 victory. Evan Odum earned the win as he struck out five batters and allowed five hits in four innings. Price earned his second save of the weekend. Connor Pett was 2-for-3 with a RBI. Tanner Mann added a RBI, and Williams had a double.
The weekend ended with the Tech Stingers winning 3-1 in the second game on Sunday. Ryan Smith earned the win on the mound. Smith pitched for five innings, striking out a batter and allowing three hits and a run. Price earned his third save of the weekend. Cottingham was 2-for-3 at the plate. Elijah had a RBI double. Williams and Austin were 1-for-3 with a run and a RBI.
The Tech Stingers are now 40-11, finishing the regular season 19-3.
The Region 10 Tournament will be held at the Lexington County Baseball Stadium, May 5-7. The Tech Stingers will open May 5 at 5 p.m. as the No. 1 seed to play the winner of the No. 4 vs. No. 5 game.
