Southern 500 Kick Off Party

The Darlington Downtown Revitalization Association held a grand party on Liberty Lane in downtown Darlington Friday August 28th to kick off the return of the Bojangles’ Southern 500 race on Labor Day weekend.

The event was planned by the DDRA Board of Directors, under the direction of Executive Director Lisa Chalain-Rock, shown above with J. Todd Hardee.

Rock extended thanks to Kistler Hardee Funeral Home, Darlington Packing Company, The Dairy Bar, Darlington Country Club, Hampton Inn & Suites of Hartsville, Sweet Janes Cafe & Wine Bar, Hammond’s Corner, Carolina Bank, Auddie Brown Chevrolet, Darlington Raceway, Vaughan Insurance, Speak Easy Band of Florence, and City of Darlington administration, recreation, police, fire, and street departments.

All Pro Series National Champion Hal Goodson brought the Florence Darlington Technical College racecar, along with race vehicles from Raceway Ford, Auddie Brown Chevrolet, Diamond Hill Plywood and the pace car from Darlington Raceway.

Blue Sky, famed mural artist, attended from Columbia to greet fans and sign autographs. Darlington boasts two of his murals.
