43rd Annual SC Sweet Potato Festival Cancelled Over Storm Forecast

Mahjong open play and a pie bake sale will still go on Saturday

DARLINGTON, S.C. – Organizers of the 43rd Annual SC Sweet Potato Festival have cancelled the event, which was scheduled for Saturday, October 10, because of forecasted storm conditions.

In announcing the decision, organizers said it was a difficult one but that the safety of vendors, volunteers, entertainers, attendees, and the wider community came first. They acknowledged the disappointment after months of planning and preparation.

Two events will still take place on Saturday. Tiles & Taters Mahjong Open Play will go ahead as scheduled for registered players. A sweet potato pie bake sale will also run from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Market on Pearl.

Organizers thanked sponsors, vendors, volunteers, and community partners for their support of the longtime Darlington tradition. This year’s festival theme was “Homegrown Roots & Heartfelt Reunions.”

“A little rain may cancel the festival, but it can’t wash away our sweet potato spirit,” organizers said.
