Sonoco partners with Red Cross to help S.C.

To offset the challenges to the American Red Cross of South Carolina’s mission of responding to disasters throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, Sonoco, an annual giving partner, is donating $100,000 to the organization. Sonoco’s contribution will help the Red Cross in advance of disasters, powering the organization with essential infrastructure, trained volunteers, and critical resources necessary to provide immediate relief and support to those in crisis. “As we continue to adapt to the COVID-19 environment, our teams never stopped responding to those in need across our state and our neighbors in other regions,” said Rod Tolbert, Regional CEO of the Red Cross of South Carolina. “We are incredibly appreciative of Sonoco’s humanitarian commitment and their generous donation. Partners like Sonoco have never been more vital to support our communities and make them more resilient to disasters like home fires and increasingly extreme weather events.” Last year alone, the Red Cross of South Carolina responded to nearly 1,500 disasters in the state, assisting 5,600 people. Support from Sonoco and other partners means the Red Cross can stand with survivors as they begin to recover and help families and communities become better prepared and more resilient for whenever and wherever disaster strikes. “Our most vulnerable neighbors face unique and pressing struggles when emergencies happen on top of dealing with the ongoing pandemic,” said Howard Coker, Sonoco president and CEO. “This holiday season, join us to provide help and hope in these difficult moments by making a financial donation to the American Red Cross.” Whether a home fire affects one family or a hurricane impacts millions, the American Red Cross must be ready to provide immediate care and comfort to anyone in need. Throughout the holiday season, gifts of any size help the American Red Cross deliver its humanitarian mission and ensure people can continue to turn to the Red Cross for help and hope—when it’s needed most. Donate by visiting redcross.org, calling 1-800-RED CROSS, or texting REDCROSS to 90999 to make a $10 donation.
