Darlington man sentenced to prison for Methamphetamine PWID
Rufus R. Dunn, V, age 30 of Darlington, SC, pled guilty to Possession With Intent to Distribute (PWID) of Methamphetamine on Thursday, March 20, 2025 in Darlington County General Sessions Court. Judge Brian Gibbons sentenced the defendant to 30 months incarceration. The case was prosecuted by Assistant Solicitor Adam M. Foard.
On December 6, 2024, Dunn possessed a quantity of meth during a welfare check called in by witnesses who saw Dunn seemingly impaired and passed out in a car in the parking lot of Advanced Auto in Darlington. Subsequent to that encounter, he was found to be in possession of the drugs. Dunn had previous convictions for drug offenses.
“Dunn’s prior record leaves us no other option than prison,” said Assistant Solicitor Foard. “Hopefully, his time in the Department of Correction will leave a lasting effect.”
Solicitor Mike Burch campaigned on a commitment to addressing the drug crisis in the Fourth Circuit. “While Fentanyl has quickly gained dominance as the largest drug problem facing America today, meth is still a scourge on our community,” said Burch. “I have directed my prosecutors to place greater emphasis on the growing drug crisis, especially repeat offenders.”
Dunn’s sentence will be served in a facility to be determined by the South Carolina Department of Corrections.
