Pop Art self-portraits at Darlington High School

Darlington High School students recently drew self-portraits in the style of 1960s Pop Art pioneer Roy Lichtenstein. Lichtenstein (1923-1997) was heavily influenced by comic books. During the 1960s, along with Andy Warhol, Jasper Johns and James Rosenquist among others, he became a leading figure in the new art movement. He described pop art as “not ‘American’ painting but actually industrial painting.” “Whaam!” and “Drowning Girl” are generally regarded as his most famous works.
