Our first responders should know how valued and respected they are

A special thank you goes out today to our first responders in Darlington County and the great state of South Carolina. When have you told these brave men and women thank you? They give countless long hours serving us while we are asleep, at work, and on vacation. They do this because they really care for each of us.

Thanks go out today to the EMS, Fireman & Rescue Squads, Police Departments, 911 Emergency Management, National Guard, all branches of the military active and retired, and especially our State Troopers. I hope that I have not forgotten anyone. If so please forgive me. I want to especially thank two State Troopers that spoke at our Baptist men’s breakfast at Black Creek Baptist Church. Several weeks ago, we were blessed with Troopers Sonny Collins and David Otto who did a fabulous job sharing with us their position as they put their lives on the line every day.

I want to say thank you again to all that you do for each of us. It is a great comfort to know that you are out doing good around our state and community. Know this- we are praying for every one of you as you serve each of us. God bless you all and thank you for your service.

Sincerely,
Dr. Bill McEntire
Pastor
Black Creek Baptist Church.

Thanks for wonderful Race Week party

The Darlington Downtown Revitalization Association (DDRA) would like to extend a big thank you to all those involved in making our Return of the Bojangles Southern 500 Race Week Kick Off Party a success.

First, thanks to NASCAR for bringing the Southern 500 back to its rightful place on Labor Day Weekend and to Darlington Raceway and its President Chip Wile for their continued support of the DDRA and our projects in so many ways.

Thanks to the volunteers who brought this idea to us and really made it come together: Todd Hardee and Rosanna Dudley. Without your enthusiasm and support, this party would not have happened.
Thanks to the many other supporters, who contributed financially or with their time: Hampton Inn & Suites of Hartsville, Florence-Darlington Technical College, Hal Goodson, Blue Sky, Darlington Country Club, Carolina Bank and Bubba DeMaurice, Kistler Hardee Funeral Home, Auddie Brown Chevrolet, Darlington Packing Company, The Dairy Bar, Hammond’s Corner, Sweet Jane’s Café and Wine Bar, Laura Griggs Burns, Vaughan Insurance, White Swan Cleaners, Diamond Hill Plywood, and Raceway Ford.

And, thanks to the City of Darlington, specifically the Recreation, Street & Sanitation, Police, and Fire Departments for their support of the party and to the Administration and City Council for its continued support of the DDRA as we work to bring a better economic climate to our town.

We also want to thank the community for coming out to support, not only our event, but all the wonderful Race Week activities including the Southern 500 Parade, the Market on Darlington Square, Race Fest, the Darlington Car Haulers Parade, and the races themselves. Together we can make Darlington great again.

The proceeds from this event will fund the DDRA Improvement Incentive Program to assist businesses with upgrades to their signs, awnings, and building facades. The first deadline for grant program will be October 24. For grant applications or more information, call DDRA Director Lisa Rock at 843-398-4000 x 103 or email darlingtonplanner@gmail.com.

We look forward to holding this event again next year.
