Legislative Happenings: S.C. Senator Gerald Malloy
A message from S. C. Senator Gerald Malloy
District 29- Darlington, Chesterfield, Lee and Marlboro Counties
Dear Friends and Constituents,
I hope that all of you had a blessed Holy week and Easter weekend. For the past week the Senate did not meet in statewide session, meeting in perfunctory session only. We will convene in statewide session on April 5th, with a full schedule of subcommittee and committee meetings. The Senate Calendar includes several pending bills of interest expected to be debated in the near future, including ethics reform, the SC Farm Aid Fund, the incarceration age for juveniles, the animal welfare bill, retirement benefit deductions for veterans, alimony reform and others.
Information on legislation and meetings may be found on the state website at the following link: www.scstatehouse.gov.
On the evening of Good Friday, March 25th, I was honored to receive the Environmental Ownership Community Award at the 63rd South Atlantic Regional Conference of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated. The Environmental Ownership Community Award is presented to individuals demonstrating strong commitment to providing healthy environments and improving the life of underserved communities. I was escorted and accompanied by my wife, Mrs. Davita Malloy, and Representative Patricia Henegan, both of whom are members of the Sorority, along with other district members who were present.
A special tribute to the Emanuel Nine and survivors was presented and Mrs. Jennifer Pinckney addressed the audience. I am truly honored and humbled to be recognized by this distinguished organization and to have been a part of such a memorable evening.
The Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority is the oldest Greek letter organization established by African American college trained women, with program activities focused on significant issues in families, communities, government and world assembly chambers. It is comprised of a nucleus of 260,000 members in graduate and undergraduate chapters in the United States, the US Virgin Islands, the Caribbean, Canada, Japan, Germany, Korea, and the Middle East and on the continent of Africa.
Thank you for your continued thoughts and prayers as we move forward in the legislative year with many important issues to address for the benefit of our State. Please feel free to contact my office with any questions or concerns that you may have. Thank you for the opportunity to serve and I look forward to hearing from you.
