Legendary Darlington Dragway operating under new ownership

With the change of the calendar, the legendary Darlington Dragway has changed ownership. New owners Russell and Dee Dee Miller assumed operations of the historic track on December 1st. The Millers, a renowned drag racing team based in Hartsville, want to be sure the legendary facility is operation for the 2016 season. However, they are faced with a series of challenges because of the need for renovations and improvements. “We know going in that we have our hands full. We are putting a great team of employees in place at this time, making plans for the future and we are ready to take this track into a new season with nothing but hope for the future,” said Russell Miller.

The first daunting task in a series of dramatic improvements is to pour concrete barrier walls. Once this is complete, the renovations to the track will include a new surface, a drainage system to prevent water seepage on the track, bathroom and concession reconstruction as well as fuel and merchandise.

Dee Dee Miller said, “We want to welcome the entire drag racing community back to the track. It seems as though no matter who we talk with, they always have a great story or the best memories of this track. We want to make sure that for the drag racing community and for the community in which we live, this track lives up to those memories and will give families to make even more memories at Darlington.”

Currently, Russell and Dee Dee Miller own and operate Pee Dee Fleet Services, a heavy-duty equipment repair, paint, and fabrication business based in Hartsville. The Millers also own Pee Dee Fleet Motorsports, with a stable of drag cars, including the famous PDRA Pro Mod 1969 Chevelle, piloted by Miller himself and his son Tyler, as well as their daughter, Brooke’s junior dragster program.
