Lamar Silver Foxes end quest for championship

The Lamar Silver Foxes’ quest for a Class A state championship ended in Simpsonville on Friday, November 27, with a 17-6 loss to the Southside Christian Sabres. The Lamar Silver Foxes end the season at 7-2 and as Region 1-2A champs. With 6.4 seconds remaining in the first quarter, Southside Christian’s Michael Long connected on a 21-yard field goal to take a 3-0 lead over Lamar. Lamar’s only score came with 17.6 seconds remaining in the first half on a 5-yard TD pass from Tyler McManus to Derrick Higgins. The 2-point conversion attempt failed. Southside Christian scored with 8:27 remaining in the third quarter on a 40-yard pass from Ja’Corey Martin to Charlie Harof. The PAT was good and Southside Christian’s lead was 4 points, 10-6. With 2:34 remaining in the game, Southside Christian’s Ja’Corey Martin rushed 1 yard for a touchdown. The extra point was good to give Southside Christian a 17-6 lead that would be the final score of the game. Lamar’s Tyler McManus completed 12 of 27 passes for 168 yards and a touchdown with 4 interceptions. He also carried 15 times for 27 yards. The Silver Foxes’ Rashad Johnson carried 7 times for 8 yards while Tavaris Dolford had 86 yards on 4 receptions. Southside Christian’s quarterback, Ja’Corey Martin was 8 of 15 pass attempts with 108 yards and a touchdown. He also carried 21 times for 87 yards. He also lost a fumble. The Sabres’ running back/wide receiver, and defensive back Charlie Harof had 67 yards on 9 carries and caught 2 passes for 43 yards and a touchdown. He also had an interception while on defense.
