Lamar Defeats Latta 39-8 in Varsity Football

The Lamar Silver Foxes defeated the Latta Vikings 39-8 in varsity football action played in Latta on Thursday, September 29.
The Latta Vikings took the opening kick-off. The drive stalled after Jamarion Jones managed to pick up a first down.
Lamar’s #10 scored with 9:35 remaining in the first quarter. The 2-point conversion attempt failed. Lamar was up 6-0.
Latta quickly picked up a couple of first downs prior to facing fourth and 20. The Lamar Silver Foxes took over on downs on their own 10-yard line.
After Lamar’s #10 picked up a first down, Tyler McManus kept the football and scored a 75-yard touchdown with 3:10 remaining in the first quarter. McManus was stopped by Justin Stutler on the 2-point conversion attempt. Lamar now led 12-0. The first quarter ended with this score.
Lamar wasted little time in returning to the end zone as #21 scored with 11:05 remaining in the second quarter. McManus took the football into the end zone for the 2-point conversion to give the Silver Foxes a 20-0 lead.
After Latta’s Lebron Cobb managed a first down, Latta relinquished the football to Lamar on downs.
Tyler McManus threw a pass to #7 who scored. However, the play was nullified due to a penalty against Lamar. The Lamar drive stalled. On fourth down, Tyler McManus’s punt sailed into the end zone for a touchback.
Latta began on their own 20-yard line. Latta managed a first down prior to the first half ending with Lamar on top 20-0.
The Silver Foxes began the third quarter where they left off in the first half by quickly scoring a 35-yard touchdown by #7. The 2-point pass conversion attempt failed. Lamar was now up 26-0.
Lamar’s #10 intercepted a Latta pass and returned the football to Latta’s 11-yard line. Lamar hit pay dirt again on an 11-yard run by #7 with 10:02 remaining in the third quarter. The PAT was no good. Lamar was up 32-0.
Lamar intercepted a pass. After being unable to move the football, McManus once again punted into the end zone.
Latta started on their own 20-yard line. Lebron Cobb kept for a 25-yard gain for a first down. This drive ended with a fumble recovered by Lamar’s #16 on Lamar’s 40-yard line.
After picking up a first down, the Silver Foxes were forced to punt. Eli Jones returned the punt to Latta’s own 25-yard line.
At the end of 3 quarters, Lamar was up 32-0.
Latta’s Braeden Arnette was on the receiving end of pass and carried the football to Lamar’s 1-foot line on a great run. Justin Stutler carried the pigskin into the end zone for Latta’s only touchdown of the night with 11:19 remaining in the game. The 2-point conversion attempt was good. Lamar led 32-8.
Tyler McManus fired a pass to #22 for the final touchdown of the night with 2:34 remaining in the game. The PAT was good. The final score was Lamar with 39 and Latta with 8.
Latta will host Hannah-Pamplico on Friday, October 7, at 7:30 p.m.
