Hartsville Varsity basketball team defeats Myrtle Beach

The Hartsville varsity basketball team defeated the visiting Myrtle Beach team 71 to 46 in Hartsville on Thursday, February 11. Hartsville started the game with an aggressive offense and a strategic defense led by Coach English. After one quarter of play, the Red Foxes had a commanding lead, 21-6, over the visitors. Myrtle Beach delivered a different strategy at the start of the second quarter with a fast offense and 9 turnovers. By halftime, the Red Foxes were still up 36-20. Hartsville Coach Yusuf English adjusted to Myrtle Beach in the third quarter and kept the defensive pressure up. Coach English stated that “it was a pleasure to watch” as the Red Foxes continued to add to the leader board finishing the third quarter 58-37. At the start of the fourth quarter, Myrtle Beach played well scoring several points consecutively until midway when the Red Foxes sealed the game winning 71-46. Hartsville Player Jamari Briggs led the game with 18 points, Cesare Edwards added 15, Tristan LeXander and DeAndre Huggins each scored 11 points, Zykee Knox and Jordan Blue each connected for 5, JaBorie Benjamin served 3 points, Kamron Foman added 2, and Xzavier Thaggard finished with 1. Myrtle beach player Hickman led the team with 10 points against Hartsville, Randal contributed 6, Johns added 5, Burges scored 4 points, Gunn made 4, Martin and Desalro added 3 each, Bryant and Jenkins contributed 2 points each and Sauls added one.
