Darlington County Parks and Recreation will be hosting some very special guests on November 12th at 6:30 p.m. at the DeLoach Center on the campus of Coker College. The Harlem Rockets, a talented group of basketball entertainers, who combine incredible showtime basketball skills and family-friendly comedy, will face the Hartsville Dream Team in a game benefiting Darlington County Parks and Recreation.

Having played over 2,500 games in 17 years without a single defeat, the Harlem Rockets offer something for everyone to enjoy. Sports enthusiasts will be intrigued by the athleticism and size of the Rockets.

Basketball aficionados will be dazzled by the ball-handling wizardry of Clarence “Mugsy” Leggett. Mugsy is one of the world’s extraordinary dribblers and a former Harlem Globetrotter. Satiated by the game of Devon “The People’s Choice” Curry and left awestruck by high-flying dunks of Cliff “Jet Blue” Malone who was featured in the Nike commercial released on Super Bowl Day.

The Harlem Rockets incorporate the audience, especially children, into the show and are always available to meet the fans and give autographs at halftime and after the game.

In addition to their performance, the Harlem Rockets will give many schools in the county an opportunity to host two players for a special assembly. During these assemblies, the players will give a short exhibition and speak on a topic chosen by the school’s principal. The Harlem Rockets have spoken to school children across the country about bullying, the importance of an education, respecting authority and many more topics. These assemblies are sure to be remembered by all involved.

Last year, nearly a dozen schools were visited and over 1,800 attended this community event.
