Darlington area kids got a chance to enjoy fun and fellowship at the 17th Annual First Baptist Church Basketball Camp, which wrapped up last week with skills drills at the Harmon Baldwin Gym and the Darlington High School Gym.

“Back in 2000, the Darlington recreation director Harmon Baldwin started this camp to teach kids about basketball and about Jesus. Then Ed Middleton took it on when Harmon was called home to be with the Lord,” says current camp director Bert Sandifer, who took over two years ago when Middleton retired.

At the free four-day event, campers were divided into groups – 7 and 8 year olds, 9 and 10 year olds, and 11 to 14 year olds – where they enjoyed snacks and devotionals during breaktimes and learned fundamentals of shooting, passing, and footwork from volunteer coaches, including some star players from the Darlington High School Falcons and Lady Falcons.

“It’s great to have former campers who have gone on to play at Darlington High return to help us coach,” says Sandifer. “It really warms my heart to see them giving back like this.” Mobile users, please click link to view more photos:FBC Basketball Camp 2016
