Darlington High School is becoming known for their cross country and track teams across the state, and this weekend confirmed it as the Darlington High School Track Team competed in the SCHSL 3A State Track Championships, coming away with a 4th Place Team Finish.

Coach Rich Wideman was proud of his team, and provided the following highlights:

• Leading the way for the Falcons was Freshman Kadasia Evans, who won her second state title in the high jump with a jump of 5-6.

• Laqueena Dubose finished 3rd in the 100 meter dash, 4th in the 200 meter dash, 8th in the long jump, and anchored the runner of 4×100 meter relay, that also included Mikela Salone, Alicia Jackson, and Samone Green, to a 2nd place finish. The 4×100 ran faster this year taking second than they did a year ago when they were the State Champs. Christina Epps finished in 4th place in the 400-meter hurdles and broke the school record for the third time this season covering the distance in 1:07.81.

• Hope Richardson placed 5th in the triple jump for the Falcons with a jump of 34-5.

•The final event of the day, the 4×400 meter relay team of Samone Green, Daisha Jones, Christina Epps, and Kadasia Evans, provided the Falcons with another school record and a 6th place finish in a time of 4:11.85.

• The only male team member to qualify for states, Jonathan Segres, finished in 6th place in the high jump for the Falcons.

“We are very proud of our athletes and all that they accomplished this season,” said Coach Wideman. “We once again had a great state meet and are looking forward to doing even better next year. We only graduate one senior girl, so next year we should return even stronger. I am blessed to have some amazing athletes and assistant coaches who make us look so good.”
