The Darlington High School Tennis team can call itself 2016 region champions after a 7-0 win over county rival Hartsville last week.
And as long as they win, the Lady Falcons could host at the Bill Cain Tennis Center until the Class 4A state championship on November 12.

Darlington head coach Cameron Bridgeman said she is beyond excited for the team.
“I cannot put into words how excited and proud I am to be the coach of such a wonderful, amazing group of girls,” Bridgeman said. “Seeing their faces light up because of earning the title of region champions make me feel so wonderful. It’s a great place to be.”
Bridgeman said at the beginning of the season she felt she had a team that could be region champs.
“I knew at the beginning of the season there was a lot of talent with the other teams and we were going to meet different challenges but the girls had a certain spirit, eagerness, and drive in their eyes,” Bridgeman said. “They wanted to be Region Champs from our very first match. I knew then that we had it in the bag.”
When asked how far she thinks the girls could go Bridgeman said, “As long as they are willing to show and bring the same attitudes I’ve seen all season, I am sure we can go all the way. The girls are spirited, hard-working, and willing to go the extra mile to earn great things.
The Class 4A girls team tennis tournament begins on Oct. 26 and at press time the Lady Falcons opponent has yet to be determined. The Class 4A state championship will be held on November 12 at the Cayce Tennis at 10 a.m.
