Darlington High School celebrated their Homecoming on Friday, October 23rd, after their original date was postponed due to the historic flooding in South Carolina October 2 – 4 made play impossible for their original opponent, Manning High School.The Falcons participated in many flood relief efforts to areas that were severely affected by flood damage, including Manning.
The Homecoming Parade rode through the Square on Friday afternoon, much to the delight of children who lined the streets eager to see their Falcons – and catch candy tossed from the students. A tailgate was held prior to the football game at The Nest. Community members gathered for the game against Marlboro County. (See the story by Drake Horton in our Sports section.)
The Darlington High School cheerleaders were joined by the little ones they coached over the summer for the Darlington Recreation Department. This year’s Homecoming Queen, 1st and 2nd Runner Up were chosen at halftime. See the slideshow of photographs below the queen candidates. Homecoming Queen Candidates:
Sydney Blackmon was escorted by Chris Walters. She represented DHS Falcon Bryson Allen.. Sydney is a member of the varsity softball team, NHS, Anchor Club, Honors College, Key Club, and a Junior Marshall. Her future plans are to become a pharmacist.
Tiesha Dixon and was escorted by Elliott Green. She represented DHS Falcon Thomas Wheeler. Tiesha is involved in dance, basketball and track and field. Her future plans are to be a cosmetologist and a chef, and major in business.
I’nesha Gattison was escorted by Requan Damon. She represented DHS Falcon Jaleel Moses. Her future plans are to become an Ob/Gyn medical doctor.
Ja’kayla Jackson was escorted by Joshua Freeman. She represented DHS Falcon Jonathan Segers. She is a member of the Honors College and National Honors Society. Her future plans are to attend either USC or the College of Charleston and major in Accounting.
Ashley Leschinsky was escorted by Jacob Wiatrowski. She represented DHS Falcon Bryce Smith. She is a member of the soccer and volleyball team, and the National Honor Society. Her future plans are to become a Registered Nurse, or possibly a doctor.
Sha’Kema McAllister was escorted by Tylek Deberry. She represented DHS Falcon Sachem Reese. She is a member of Student Government, Anchor Club, National Art Society, and track and field. Her future plans are to join the U.S. Air Force.
Jade McPhatter was escorted by Kyle Hilton. She represented DHS Falcon Justin Mack. She is a member of the varsity softball, golf and soccer teams, National Honor Society, Anchor Club, National Art Society, Early College Program. Her future plans are to attend USC and go to medical school.
Shateria Montaque was escorted by Deontre Gavins. She represented DHS Falcon Keenen Russell. She is a member of JROTC, National Art Honor Society, Key Club, National Honor Society, an Early Honors College. Her future plans are to attend college to study broadcast journalism, and join the U.S. National Guard.
Mikela Salone was escorted by McKenzie (no name listed). She represented DHS Falcon Josh Chesler. She is member of the track and field team. Her future plans are to go into track professionally, and major in Social Work in college.
Davida Scott was escorted by Akiem Sutton. She represented DHS Falcon Antonio Robinson. She is a member of Student Government, National Art Society, National Honors Society, Anchor Club, Honors College, Volleyball and Soccer. Her future plans are to attend University of South Carolina and enter the U.S. Army Reserve, then active duty in the Army. She plans to become a Neonatologist.
Chasity Skidmore was escorted by Malikm Depugh. She represented DHS Falcon Darius Green. She is a senior representative in SGA, a Cheerleader, and is in the Honors College. Her future plans are to attend the College of Charleston and major in Criminology.
Kiana Smith was escorted by Gary Britt. She represented DHS Falcon Quenton Thompson. She is a 5-year DHS Volleyball player and 4- year JAG representative. Her future plans are to attend Clark-Atlanta University in Atlanta, GA and major in Fashion Design and Business.
TiAsia Thomas was escorted by Kris Brunson. She represented DHS Falcon Rodrick Waiters. She is a member of the National Arts Society. Her future plans are to enter the U.S. Air Force.
BriAnna Wilds was escorted by Preston Kelly. She represented DHS Falcon Elmo Johnson. She is a member of the Key Club, Volleyball team, student government, band, JROTC, Honors College. In JROTC she received an award for Leadership Excellence. Her future plans are to attend USC and earn a PhD., then enter the U.S. Navy as a psychologist.
Bailey Yarborough was escorted by Jacob Johnson. She represented DHS Falcon Dezmond Allen. She is a member of the National Arts Society, National Honor Society, Honors College, Softball and Golf. Her future plans are to attend Wingate, and study Physical Therapy.
