Darlington Recreation Department summer basketball program
Around 170 kids enrolled in Darlington Rec basketball programs this summer, playing in age groups ranging from 7 year-olds to 17 year-olds. Young basketball players worked on their skills and enjoyed a grilled hot dog lunch barbecue at the A.W. Stanley Gym after the event.
Regardless of their level of experience, all summer league players get the chance to improve their game by focusing on fundamentals, like running dribble drills, sharpening their shots, and crisp passing.
Basketball mom Venus shared that her son Antonio has really enjoyed playing Recreation League basketball, adding that his hard work in the program had boosted not only his court skills, but given him greater confidence.
“I just want to thank everybody for participating in the summer league. This is something we’re going to try to do every year,” said Don Blakney, activities director at A.W. Stanley Gym. “We’re going to try to get more kids interested in the program, get them to come out and have fun. That’s what it’s all about.”
