Darlington City Councilman Cooper announces candidacy for Mayor

With family, friends and supporters at his side, Darlington City Councilman James “Jimmy” Cooper III formally announced Monday his candidacy for Mayor of Darlington, S.C.

Councilman Cooper shared his speech prior to press time with the News & Press, and cited the challenges and accomplishments that have occurred in Darlington since he was elected as an At-Large Councilman. Cooper indicated that although progress has been made there is still much to do to make for a better Darlington.

“Over the course of this campaign I will be reaching out to all parts of our community—and I will be seeking to do more than just share my vision for the future,” said Cooper. “I hope to also get your Input and your commitment towards making a better city for ALL of our citizens.”

Elected to Darlington City Council in 2011, Cooper is the fourth-generation proprietor of Cooper’s Barbershop in Darlington and has served on the Darlington City Planning Commission and the Darlington Downtown Revitalization Association.

“I ask for your support- and most importantly I ask for your prayers as we work together to Drive Darlington Forward!” said Cooper.
