Wildcats defeat Red Foxes

The 3-A Dillon Wildcats came from behind to defeat the 4-A Hartsville Red Foxes 59-35 in Kelly Town in Hartsville on Friday, September 9, before a large crowd of spectators.
The Dillon Wildcats took the opening kick-off and quickly reeled off 2 first downs before turning the football over to the Hartsville Red Foxes who wasted little time in placing 6 points onto the scoreboard with 5:25 remaining in the first quarter when Carmello McDaniel scored from the 1-yard line. The PAT was good by Jahlil Lewis, and Hartsville led 7-0.
The Wildcats began on their own 30-yard line after the kick-off but were unable to pick up a first down and had to punt.
The Red Foxes took over and fumbled the ball. Dillon recovered but the play was blown dead by the official, and Hartsville retained possession of the football. With 2:23 remaining in the first quarter, Cole Winburn scored after the reception. Jahlil Lewis’ PAT was good. Hartsville led 14-0.
Dillon’s Ty Martin returned the kick-off to Dillon’s own 26-yard line. The Wildcats went to work on offense and quickly picked up a couple of first downs before turning the football over to the Red Foxes on Hartsville’s own 42-yard line.
Hartsville’s Marcus Johnson got away from tacklers and picked up 13 yards to start the drive for the Red Foxes. After a completed pass to Jackson Moore for a first down, a carry by Mckendrie Douglas, and a first down by Marcus Johnson, Mckendrie Douglas kept for the touchdown with 5:23 remaining. The PAT was good. Hartsville was up 21-0.
The Dillon Wildcats once again started the drive from their own 26-yard line and worked their way down field.
With 3:35 remaining in the first half on fourth and 8, Ty Martin carried the football in for Dillon’s first score of the game. Brandon Allen, the holder for the placekicker, carried the football in for 2 points to make the score 21-8 in favor of the home team.
At halftime Hartsville was up 21-8 over Dillon.
With 10:42 remaining in the third quarter, Carmello McDaniel scored for Hartsville, and the PAT was good to give the Red Foxes a 28-8 lead.
With 8:38 remaining in the third quarter, Dillon’s Ty Martin scored from the 5-yard line. The PAT was good by Stephan Rojas to cut the lead to 13 points, Hartsville 28 and Dillon 15.
Dillon’s Jamorian Fling intercepted a Mckendrie Douglas pass and returned it to Hartsville’s 5-yard line. With 5:50 remaining in the third quarter, Ty Martin carried the football into the end zone for 6 points to make the score 28-21 in favor of Hartsville.
After a good punt by Hartsville, Dillon began on offense on their own 45-yard line. With 1:19 remaining in the third quarter, Chris McCollum plowed his way into the end zone to cut Hartsville’s lead to only 1 point, 28-27.
With 1:04 remaining in the third quarter, Damarion Coe returned the kick-off for a touchdown to increase Hartsville’s lead 34-27. The PAT was good. Hartsville led 35-27.
With 8:50 remaining in the game, Dillon’s Jamorian Fling scored from the 1-yard line, Chris McCollum carried the football in for the 2-point conversion to tie the game at 35.
Dillon’s Donnez Alford intercepted a pass and returned the football to Hartsville’s 48-yard line. Ty Martin scored from 48 yards out with 7:19 remaining in the game. Once again, Chris McCollum powered his way into the end zone for the 2-point conversion to give Dillon a 43-35 lead.
Dillon’s defense forced Hartsville to punt. Dillon’s Jamorian Fling scored a long touchdown of over 60 yards with 4:40 remaining in the game. Chris McCollum once again carried the football in for the 2-point conversion, and Dillon led 51-35.
With 1:12 remaining in the game, Dillon added another touchdown and a 2-point conversion to go up 59-35.
