Can you guess where this is in Darlington County?

The photo from last week was taken at Lowther’s Lake, courtesy of a tour by Dr. Chip Helms through the woods behind the Melea Manning House on Old Georgetown Road in Darlington. The lake is an oxbow lake of the Great Pee Dee River, and is a favorite fishing spot for local fishermen seeking bass, catfish, crappie and bream. The area is rich with history, with Witherspoon Island in the center and plenty of tales of spring and summer picnics.

A public boat landing “Whipples Landing” is located on Georgetown Road for people who wish to bring a canoe or kayak to tour the waterway. No speedboats allowed!

The readers that guessed correctly were: Tommy Howle, and Gail Gandy.
