James “Jimmy” Smith

James “Jimmy” Smith, age 61, passed away in his home Thursday morning, October 1, 2015. Funeral service was held 3:00 p.m. Sunday, October 4th in the chapel at Belk Funeral Home.

Born March 20, 1954, Jimmy is the son of Jack Smith, and the late Geraldine “Nookie” Thames Smith. He was a graduate of St. John’s High School in 1973, and attended Ferrum College and Francis Marion College. He retired from Nucor Steel, and owner of Smith Photography and Smith Appraisals. He was previously employed at Polyquest, and was currently employed at Sam’s Club. He was an avid Dale Earnhardt Sr. and Jr. fan, and was a collector of NASCAR memorabilia. Jimmy was also a certified scuba diver, and a devoted Clemson fan.

Surviving in addition to his father, Jack (Sylvia) Smith of Darlington, is his wife and sweetheart of 38 years, Marsha Lloyd Smith; his daughter, Jennifer (Jason) Sanderson of Darlington; his son, Staff Sgt. Jamie (Lakin) Smith U.S. Marine Corps, of Newport News, VA; his grandchildren, Avery Grace Sanderson, Laila McKenna Smith, and Gavin James Smith; his mother-in-law, Betty Lloyd; and his beloved dog, Tillman.

Preceded in death, in addition to his mother, were his grandparents, Ida and Frank Thames; his grandmother, Bernice Bryant; his father-in-law, Harold Lloyd; his brother-in-law, Eddie Lloyd; and his beloved dogs, Cotton and Baby.

The family received friends from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Saturday, October 3, 2015 at Belk Funeral Home.

Vernola “Tiny” Goodson Davis

Funeral services for Mrs. Vernola “Tiny” Goodson Davis were held Monday, October 5, 2015 at 12 noon at the Leevy’s Funeral Home, Taylor Street Chapel of Columbia, S.C. with entombment in the Greenlawn Memorial Park.

Mrs. Vernola “Tiny” Goodson Davis was born March 30, 1931 in Darlington, South Carolina. She was the eighth of ten children born to Otis and Alvernia Thomas Goodson. She went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, September 29, 2015.
