Edith V. Lyde

Funeral services for Ms. Edith V. Lyde of Darlington were held 1p.m. Sunday, October 22, 2017 at Cherry Grove Missionary Baptist Church. Interment followed in Hart Cemetery#2 directed by Jordan Funeral Home, Inc.

Edith Virginia Lyde, a daughter of the late Nathaniel Lyde, Sr. and Edith Nettles Lyde, was born March 13, 1949 in Florence County. She entered her final resting place Tuesday, October 17, 2017 at Carolinas Hospital System.

Edith attended Darlington County Public Schools and graduated from Mayo High School in 1968. After graduation she moved to Brooklyn, NY where she lived for the next twenty-three years. While in New York she received a certificate for Laboratory Technician and attended Medgar Evers College. While in New York she was employed at Metropolitan Insurance Company and Bellevue Hospital in Harlem. After returning to Darlington, SC in 1991 she was employed at Bruce Hospital and McLeod Hospital in Florence, SC.

Edith joined Holy Trinity Baptist Church in Brooklyn, NY where she was baptized by Rev. O. B. J. Brunson and later St. Paul Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Johnny Youngblood. After moving back to South Carolina in 1991 she joined Cherry Grove Baptist Church where she worked faithfully.

Survivors left to cherish her memories are: her daughter, Karen Renee Lyde; grandson, Christofer D. Blathers; four brothers, Willie (Dorothy) Lyde, James (Barbara) Lyde of Darlington, SC, Tonsel Lyde, Sr. of Landover, MD and Nathaniel Lyde, Jr. (Melba) of Philadelphia, PA; two sisters, Dorothy (Eugene) Johnson of Darlington, SC and Vivian (Johnny) Boykins of Pensacola, FL; sister-in-law, Gracie Dell Lyde of Darlington, SC; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Wake services for Ms. Lyde were held 6 p.m. Saturday evening, October 21, 2017 in the funeral home chapel.
The family is receiving friends other times at the residence of her sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Eugene Johnson, 1520 Elissa Drive, Darlington.

Patricia G. Watford

Patricia “Pat” G. Willis Watford, age 83, passed away Tuesday, October 17, 2017. A graveside service was held 1p.m. Saturday, October 21st in Lamar Cemetery, directed by Belk Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the home, 225 Adams Circle, Lamar, SC 29069.

Born February 5, 1934 in Washington DC, Pat is the daughter of the late Charlie Willis and the late Elsie Jenkins Willis. She worked as a secretary for several accounting firms. Pat loved to shop, especially at Wal-Mart, and sending cards to her friends. She was a member of Lamar United Methodist Church.

Surviving are her husband of 54 years, Robert Manly Watford, Sr; her sons, Wayne Skidmore, and Robert “Bert” Watford, all of Lamar; her grandchildren, Crystal (Melvin) Depugh of Darlington; her great-grandchildren, Heidi, Chasity, Malika, and Melika.

She was preceded in death by her son, Steven “Steve” Skidmore, and her sister, Betty Giorno.

Ruby Perkins

Ruby Easter Odom Perkins, age 100, was called home by our Heavenly Father on October 18, 2017. Funeral services held 10 a.m. Saturday, October 21, 2017 in the chapel at Belk Funeral Home, with burial following in Mt. Mizpah Cemetery. The family received friends following the service in the chapel.

Born in Chatham County, North Carolina on April 6, 1917, Ruby is the daughter of the late William Henry Harrison Odom and Loretty Garner Odom. She retired from Dixie Cup Company after 29 years. Ruby was the author of many poems, published two books, and was a frequent writer to the letters to the editor of the Florence Morning News and The News and Press, for always standing up for the Kingdom of God, and the unborn babies who needed someone to speak for them.

She was predeceased by her husband, Lewis Franklin Perkins Sr; a sister, Bessie Estel Odom Chriscoe, and three brothers, William Dewey, Shelly Henry Taft, and Shafter Harrison Odom. She is survived by her son, Jimmie Harrison Perkins (Marguerite); preceded in death by two sons, Lewis Franklin Perkins Jr. and Tommy Eugene Perkins. Ruby leaves behind many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the staff of Morrell Nursing Center for the great care given to Ruby during her stay.

Patsy Watford Moody

Patsy Watford Moody, age 62, passed away Thursday, October 19, 2017. Funeral services were held 3 p.m. Sunday, October 22nd in Mechanicsville Baptist Church, with burial following in the church cemetery, directed by Belk Funeral Home. The family received friends from 2-3 p.m. Sunday at the church.

Born December 23, 1954, Patsy is the daughter of the late Roscoe Watford and Lula Mae Gainey Watford. She enjoyed spending time with her family and her dogs, being around people, and watching movies. She was a member of Mechanicsville Baptist Church.

Surviving are her husband, Timmy Moody; her children, Brooke (Chris) Humphries, both of Darlington, and Timmy “L.T.” (Leslie) Moody of Florence; her grandchildren, Payton Humphries, Timmy Moody Jr and Paisley Humphries; her siblings, Shirley Atkinson, Myrtle Hodge, Viola Oakley, Margaret Grier, Billy Watford, all of Darlington, and Melvin Watford of Florence. She was preceded in death by her brother, Roscoe Watford, Sr.
