Myra Groff Dalrymple

Myra Groff Dalrymple, age 83 passed away Friday, May 20, 2016. She was born September 14, 1932 in Concord, N.C., and was the daughter of the late James B. Groff and Virginia Elizabeth Deas Groff. She worked as an LPN for many years. She was an active member of Darlington Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are her son, Phillip (Brenda) Dalrymple and her granddaughter, Heather Reynolds of Watertown, MA; and all of her church family at Darlington Presbyterian. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elton Dalrymple.

Charles “Charlie” J. Jennings

On May 23, 2016, God opened the gates of heaven and welcomed in our beloved Charles J. Jennings at Carolinas Hospital System in Florence after an extended illness. Funeral services were held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 31, 2016 in the chapel at Belk Funeral Home followed by burial at Darlington City Cemetery.

Charlie was born in New York on November 15, 1949 to Eva Mae Jennings. He was raised by his Aunt Pearlie Brown. He attended public schools in New York City and later attended schools in Hartsville. Charlie worked as a local DJ in his early to mid-years earning him the nickname “Good Time Charlie”.

Anyone who knew Charlie was to know the love he had for his job and for his co-workers at Jewels Restaurant. He was a diligent and dedicated worker for over thirty years until his health declined. He was a free spirited man who was not afraid to live life by his own rules.

Charlie was preceded in death by his aunt, Pearlie Brown and his sister, Vivian Brown.

Those left to cherish his memories are his children, Tiree (Danielle Muldrow) Taylor; his daughters, Lorie C. Pooler and Kenyatta Edwards; his grandchildren, Simone Taylor, Shynasia Williams, Jicqual C. Pooler, and Brianna Moses, all of Darlington; his nephews Heyward (Shindou) Brown, Vernon (Tabitha) Brown, and Sgt. James Brown; his cousin, Robert (Helen) McPhail, and a very special cousin, Deloris King Muldrow and her daughters, Missy (Elison) Hudson and Kim Muldrow, both of Columbia, and Leteisha Muldrow of Darlington; his very dear friends, Levern and Mary Ruth Williams and their daughter Veronica; Brenda and Tommy Harrison, Frank and Louise Jordon, and a host of other relatives and friends.

The family will receive friends at 20A Springfield Apartments in Darlington.

David Ray Tarlton

Darlington, South Carolina David Ray Tarlton, 62, of Darlington died on Thursday, May 26, 2016. Graveside services were held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 28, 2016 at Grove Hill Cemetery, directed by Kistler-Hardee Funeral Home. The family received friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Friday, May 27, 2016 at Kistler-Hardee Funeral Home.

David was born in Darlington County. He was the son of the late Wade and Betty Blackmon Tarlton. Surviving are his son, Matthew Tarlton and wife, Miranda of Florence; his granddaughter, Avary Tarlton of Florence; and many close family and friends. David was preceded in death by his wife, Pamela Byrd Tarlton.

Ellen Faye Cook

Darlington, South Carolina Ellen Faye Cook, of Darlington died on Wednesday, May 25, 2016 at her home surrounded by her loving family.
A celebration of life service was held Friday, May 27, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Kistler Hardee Funeral Home. The family received friends from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. on Friday, May 27, 2016 at the funeral home and other times at the home, 122 Conder Circle, Darlington, S.C.

Faye was born in Dillon, South Carolina. She was the daughter of the late James Tucker and Betty Tucker. Faye loved spending time with her family and will be missed dearly. Surviving are her husband, Bobby Cook of Darlington; her son, Matthew Dylan Cook of Darlington; her brother, Randy Tucker of Reno, Nevada; and by her sister, Connie Caulder and husband, Tony of Dillon.

Roberta W. Edwards

Darlington, South Carolina Roberta Watford Edwards, 88, of Darlington died on Friday, April 15, 2016. Graveside services were held on Tuesday, April 19, 2016 at 4:00 p.m. at Grove Hill Cemetery. The family received friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Monday, April 18, 2016 at Kistler Hardee Funeral Home.

Mrs. Edwards was born in Darlington County. She was the daughter of the late Junius and Blanche Watford. Mrs. Edwards worked at Dixie Cup in Darlington for over 44 years. She loved gardening, reading, her canine companions and spending time with her family. Surviving are her children, Allen Edwards and Carolyn Isgett both of Darlington; her sister, Faye Willis of Darlington; her grandchildren, Melody (Jimmy) Dixon of Rock Hill and Tonja (Allen) McRae of Darlington; six great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Edwards was preceded in death by her husband, James Allen Edwards; and sisters, Joyce Evans, and Janet Weatherford.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Oakhaven Nursing Center in Darlington for the wonderful care and love shown to Mrs. Edwards during her time there.
