Kathleen Hall Gainey Parnell
Kathleen Hall Gainey Parnell, age 87, passed away Saturday, June 27, 2015. Funeral Service was held 5:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 30th at Dovesville Church of God. Burial followed in the church cemetery, directed by Belk Funeral Home.

Mrs. Parnell was born in Hartsville on May 2, 1928. She was the daughter of the late Walter and Kallie Watford Hall. She worked for Nytronics, and then worked for 15 years at L’EGGS until she retired. Mrs. Parnell liked going to Darlington County Council on Aging, and enjoyed eating and playing Bingo while she was there. Mrs. Parnell was a Charter member of Dovesville Church of God. Kathleen loved all of her family very much.

Surviving are her children, Robert (Linda) Gainey, Carolyn (Joe) Odom, and Donna (Buck) Register, all of Darlington; 17 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren; special grandchildren Sheila Ham, and Jonathan Wilson, and a special nephew Bud Hall, who all took part in taking care of Mrs. Parnell; a son-in-law, Randy Wilson; and her special canine companion, Little Bit.

Preceded in death are her first husband, Monroe Gainey; her second husband, Harvey Parnell; her children, Dot (Allen) Ham, Charlie Gainey, Wanda Wilson, and Wayne Gainey; and grandchildren, Luann O’Neal, Dustin Cameron and Angela Gainey.

The family received friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Monday, June 29th at Belk Funeral Home and other times at the home.

Gary Wayne “June Bug” Gainey
Gary Wayne “June Bug” Gainey, 55, of Darlington died on Saturday, June 6, 2015.

Wayne was born in Darlington County. He was the son of Kathleen Hall Gainey Parnell of Darlington, and the late Monroe Gainey. Wayne was a member of Dovesville Church of God, and worked for Rogers Top Shop in Darlington for many years.

Surviving include his mother; his wife, Kathryn Griggs “Opie” Gainey of Darlington; his children, Gary Gainey and fiancé, Gretchen, Dacia Cameron, and Mellanna Jones, all of Darlington; his step-son, William Christopher Griggs of Darlington; his grandchildren, Greshan and Ryan both of Darlington; his brother, Robert Gainey and wife, Linda of Darlington; his sisters, Carolyn Odom and husband, Joe, and Donna Register and husband, Buck all of Darlington.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Sandra Pye Gainey; his son-in-law, Jimbo Cameron; and by his grandson, Dustin Wayne Cameron.

Nancy L. Mutter
Nancy Lorraine Buskill Mutter, age 76, died Saturday, June 20, 2015 after a brief battle with cancer.

A memorial service was held in the chapel of Belk Funeral Home at 5:00 on Thursday, June 25, 2015. The family received friends following the service and other time at the home of Karen Holt, 1225 Oak Commons Dr., Darlington.

Born November 17, 1938 in Richlands, VA, she was the daughter of the late Lacy and Eula Rae Horton Buskill.

Nancy was a devoted mother, and she loved her family very much. She enjoyed spending time with children and her grandchildren.

Surviving are her daughters, Karen Holt and Mindy Mutter, both of Darlington; grandchildren, Chad (Monica) Holt of Florence, and Logan Holt of Darlington; great-grandchildren, Haleigh and Reese Holt; many nieces and nephews, including special nieces, Kim, Tracy and Lisa; and Nancy’s faithful canine friend, Sadie-Rae.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Holly Mutter; and her sisters, Betty Piche, and Peggy Vaughn.

Roosevelt “Coot” Gainey, Jr
Roosevelt “Coot” Gainey, Jr, age 63, passed away Wednesday, June 24, 2015. Funeral service was held 4:30 p.m. Friday, June 26 at Flat Creek Pentecostal Church.

Born in Darlington, Mr. Gainey is the son of the late Roosevelt and Geneva Cline Gainey. Growing up, Mr. Gainey worked on a farm; then, he worked for Pallet Makers, and later worked in logging until he retired. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and working in his garden.

Surviving are his brothers, John Gainey, Robert Gainey, Ronnie (Nita) Gainey, all of Darlington; his sisters, Blanche (Heyward) Gainey of Hartsville, and Leila (Ernest) Tyner of Patrick; and many nieces and nephews.

The family received friends on Thursday evening, June 25th, at Belk Funeral Home.

Juanita Grooms Bryant
Juanita Grooms Bryant, age 85, passed away Saturday, June 27, 2015. Funeral service was held at 3:00 p.m. Monday, June 29th at Faith Baptist Church, followed by burial fin Darlington Memory Gardens, directed by Belk Funeral Home.

Born in Florence County, Juanita was the daughter of the late Lonnie and Aleen Miles Grooms. Mrs. Bryant retired from Dixie Cup after working there for forty-four years. She enjoyed tending to her garden and working in her flowerbeds. Mrs. Bryant will be remembered as a wonderful cook. She was a member of Faith Baptist Church.

Surviving are her sons, James Allen (Martha) Bryant of Hartsville, Richard Darrell (Sandy) Bryant of Darlington, and Gary Emmett Bryant of Darlington; six grandchildren, and ten great-grands; and her sisters, Jo (Ken) Watford, and June (Calvin) Gibson.

Mrs. Bryant was preceded in death by her husband Emmett “E.L.” Bryant, and a grandson, Eddie Bryant.

The family received friends from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Sunday, June 28th at Belk Funeral Home.

Jerry Francine Gainey
Jerry Francine Gainey, 62, of Darlington died on Sunday, June 21, 2015.

Memorial services were held on Thursday, June 25, 2015 at 4:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Kistler – Hardee Funeral Home. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home.

Jerry was born in Darlington, South Carolina. She loved being outdoors, was an avid reader and spending time with her dog, Molly.

Surviving are her mother, Geraldine Lloyd of Bishopville; her sons, Robert Huggins and wife, Lisa of Goldsboro, N.C., and Scott Huggins and wife, Heidi of Goose Creek, S.C.; her sisters, Angela Dalenta and husband, Jerry of Florence, and Tootsie Bishop of Bishopville; and her eight grandchildren.
