John Raymond Norris

John Raymond Norris, age 74, died Monday, January 5, 2015, in a Stockbridge, GA hospital. Funeral services will be 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 7th at Mt. Elon Baptist Church in Lydia, directed by Belk Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the church from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m..

Born May 5, 1940 in Hartsville, S.C., he was the son of the late Perry and Evelyn Worrill Norris. Raymond started working for SONOCO, and retired as a manager from a subsidiary of SONOCO. In his free time, Mr. Norris enjoyed fishing.

He is survived by his wife, Ann Norris; three daughters: Tammy Norris, Cynthia Rigsby, both of Stockbridge, GA and Sylvia Norris of Rex, GA; his siblings: Elizabeth, Edward, Marguerite, Gene, Danny, Rose Marie and Timothy; grandchildren: Melissa, Crystal, and Eric; and great grandchildren: Jacob, Tyler, Faith, Dylan, and Ravyn.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Frankie.

Ann Kay Matkins

Ann Kay Matkins passed with peace and grace on January 4, 2015 at Heritage Nursing Home in Florence, S.C.
She was predeceased by her parents, James Kershaw “Doc” Young and Lillie Edwards Young as well as her sister, Sandra Moore.

She is survived by her son, John (Erin) Matkins of Shrewsbury, Massachusetts; daughter, Sandra Matkins Sturkie of Florence; brother, Reverend Steve (Frances) Young; and grandchildren, Hadley, Kershaw, Ava and Sam. Additionally, she has six nieces and nephews whom she dearly loved.

Kay was born in Darlington, S.C. and attended Faith Baptist Church, of which she was a founding member. She worked most of her life as an office manager at Lowe’s Incorporated with her second family. Kay loved the Lord; she also loved teaching Sunday School, being a member of the Women’s Missionary Union, and cheering her grandchildren on at their sporting events.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 9, 2015 at Kistler Hardee Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Darlington Memory Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday, January 8, 2015 at the funeral Home.

Lucia Ann Ross Wingate

Funeral services for Ms. Lucia Ann Ross Wingate will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Sunday, January 11, 2015 at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church in Darlington.

Interment will follow in Faith Memorial Gardens directed by Jordan Funeral Home, Inc. of Darlington.
Ms. Wingate, a daughter of the late Luther and Christine Graham Ross, was born December 6, 1947. She died on Monday January 5, 2015.

Lucia was educated in the public schools of Darlington County and graduated from Mayo High School class of 1966. She also graduated from Benedict College in 1970. Lucia worked in the Darlington County School System for thirty-three years before retiring; she then returned for three years as a Behavior Manager.
She was an active member of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church.

Survivors include: her daughters, Kim and Tonya Wingate; her sister, Keysha Lashawn Ross; three grandchildren; a special cousin, Christy Yvonne Williamson; an adopted daughter, Latonya Mills Grant; one aunt, Annie R. Postell; one uncle, Robert “Bubba” (Annie Mae) Miles of Darlington, S.C.; and a host of other family and friends.

The family is receiving friends at the residence, 809 N. Springville Road, Darlington.
