Earley Baxter Dunn, Jr.

Earley Baxter Dunn, Jr. was born in Darlington, South Carolina on June 5, 1921 and passed away on December 23, 2015 in San Diego California. Earley attended high school and worked as a weaver in Darlington at the cotton mill before he enlisted in the Navy.

Earley served his country working for the Navy for 45 years. He was a corpsman for the Navy and served in four wars. He fought in World War II and was one of the many young men who found themselves fighting at the beach at Normandy in June of 1944. He also served in World War II during the Pacific Conflict against Japan, and in the Korean War and Vietnam War. He earned many medals and accommodations during his service years. He was awarded the Korean Service Medal, United Nations Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and WW II Victory Medal.

Early was married to Ella Mae Dunn for many years prior to her passing on August 28, 1995. Early is survived by his two daughters, Erlene Deborah Dunn Gilbert of Phoenix, Arizona, and Kathleen Floyd-Crawford of Murrieta, California; and one grandson, Daniel Baxter Floyd of Carlsbad, California.

Earley loved dogs, modifying things in the garage, cars, being at home, time alone, and riding his exercise bike until October 31, 2015.

Earley Baxter Dunn was laid to rest on Friday January 8, 2015, 12:00 p.m. at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery in San Diego, California. Reception followed at The Bay Club Hotel and Marina in San Diego, California from 1:00 p.m. -4:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the San Diego Blood Bank.

Geraldine Kennedy Lloyd

Geraldine Kennedy Lloyd, wife of Jack Lloyd, age 81, passed away Sunday, January 10, 2016. Funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 12th, in the chapel at Belk Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Grove Hill Cemetery.

Born August 22, 1934, Geraldine is the daughter of the late Agnes Mills Cowick, and the late Cole L. Cowick. She worked as a nursing assistant at Wilson Hospital for 20 years. Geraldine enjoyed crocheting, she loved gardening, and she loved her pet dogs.

Surviving are her husband, Jack Lloyd of Bishopville; her daughters, Angela (Jerry) Dalenta of Woodruff, and Ida “Tootsie” Bishop of Bishopville; her grandchildren, Adam Vinson, Julie (Josh) Hamrick, Amy Hall, Sheila White, Jessica Banks, Frankie Polson, Scott (Heidi) Huggins, Melissa (Thomas) Blackmon, Robert (Lisa) Huggins, and many great-grandchildren; her brothers, Mitchell (Judy) Cowick, and Wayne (Ann) Cowick, both of Darlington; her sisters, Vickie Perkins of Florence, and Janet Turner of Darlington.

She was preceded in death by her son, Robert Kennedy; her daughters, Sherry Kennedy, Sue Yow, and Jerry Gainey; her granddaughter, Cheryl Yow; and her first husband, Francis Kennedy.
