Thomas Eugene “Gene” Gainey

Thomas Eugene “Gene” Gainey, age 78, died Thursday, August 13, 2015 at the McLeod Hospice House. Funeral services were held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, August 16, 2015, at First Original Free Will Baptist Church, followed by burial in Grove Hill Cemetery, directed by Belk Funeral Home. The family received friends from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home, and other times at the home, 1920 Kate Lane, Darlington.

Gene was born in Darlington County on August 7, 1937, son of the late Rev. Doc and Vernell Outlaw Gainey, Sr. He had worked for Perfection Gear and then Tally Metals. Gene was known throughout the community as the “Rabbit Man”. He enjoyed visiting with residents in the local nursing homes and loved being around his family. He attended First Original Free Will Baptist Church and loved his church family.

Surviving are his wife, Margaret C. Gainey; his children: Emily (Aaron) McInville of Florence, Jan (Butch) Morrell, Bobby (Lori) Gainey, Tommy (Lisa) Gainey, Shirley (Roger) Wallace, and a daughter-in-law, Pam Gainey, all of Hartsville; grandchildren: Emma Grace McInville, Will McInville, Gage Morrell, Brooke Jones, Bobby Gainey, Jr., Nikki Gainey, Katelyn Gainey McKnight, Alex Gainey, Denise Tedder, Dawn Mixon, Miranda Tedder, and Ryan McInville; eleven great-grandchildren; brothers: Doc Gainey, Jr., Jimmy Gainey, and Timmy Lackey; and his mother-in-law, Virginia Crowley.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Charles David Gainey and Phillip O’Neal Gainey.

The family expresses their thanks to Dr. Lynn Maroney, Dr. Wallace Vaught, McLeod Home Health and McLeod Hospice for all of their care and support.

Thomas Warren Mahon

Thomas Warren Mahon, age 82, died Thursday, August 13, 2015. A memorial service was held 3:00 p.m. Sunday, August 16th in the chapel of Belk Funeral Home with a visitation following the service.

Born November 08, 1932 in Dillon County, he was the son of the late Harold A. and Earlene Weatherford Mahon. Thomas served his country in the United States Army Air Corps as a Radio Technician. He worked for Westvaco and then went on to work in the construction industry. Thomas enjoyed fishing and being outside, especially if it involved a boat ride. His family always gave him a hard time for trying to “fix things that weren’t broke.”

Surviving are his children, Thomas D. (Sandy) Mahon of Hartsville, Tania M. (Stephen) Drinkard of Goose Creek, Shannon S.K. (Betsy) Mahon of Timmonsville, Georgann Gainey of Elgin, Michael Halchak of Darlington, Paul Halchak, Jude Halchak of Darlington, and Vic Benton of Myrtle Beach; his brother, Dudley S. Mahon of Summerville; six grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Nadene Mahon.

The family would like to thank Agape Hospice, and especially Brittany for their care.

The family will be at his home 102 Law St., Darlington.
