Update on Howleco fire
A July 2 fire caused major damage including a building collapse at Howleco Sales, a used-appliance business at 1552 S. Main Street in Darlington. The initial call came in to Palmetto Rural Fire Department, and departments from City of Darlington, Darlington County Fire District, Hartsville, West Florence and Windy Hill sent units to assist. Traffic was restricted to provide space for tanker trucks and emergency vehicles to operate. Within a few hours, firefighters had the blaze under control. PHOTO BY SAMANTHA LYLES
