Darlington County Coroner J. Todd Hardee has confirmed the name of a man whose body was discovered Aug. 3 near Lamar.
The man was identified as K’Quan Hurley, 25, of Lee County. Hardee confirmed that Hurley and his brother (who is a juvenile and therefore remains unnamed) both died from gunshots.
The two victims were found at 11 a.m. last Monday morning in a vehicle close to Lynches River on Highway 401, in the front yard of an abandoned house.
Hardee ruled both deaths were caused by homicide, and their bodies were transported to MUSC in Charleston for autopsy.
Lt. Robby Kilgo with the Darlington County Sheriff’s Office said Friday that the autopsies had been completed and law enforcement was engaged in an “around-the-clock investigation” to find those responsible for the killings.
“In a situation like this, there are really two investigations running parallel to each other — gathering witness statements and analyzing physical evidence. What investigators are doing now is using information they gathered from early witnesses and the scene to develop leads,” Kilgo told the News & Press.
“Investigators are interviewing people and have developed several leads already. At the same time, SLED is analyzing physical evidence from the scene and gathered from the autopsies. Investigators expect to gain valuable information from SLED’s analysis in the coming weeks,” Kilgo said. “While the Darlington County Sheriff’s Office is the lead investigating agency, we have already received assistance from SLED, Lee County Sheriff’s Office and other agencies.”
