Trinity Jr. Legion Ends Losing Streak

By: Don Gearhart

The five-game losing streak for the Trinity Jr. Legion ended with a 6-4 win over Wilson (Purple). Trinity started right out the gate when Mac Buchannon singled and Gates Chapmon walked. A Tanner Buck single drove in Buchannon and Hunter White’s grounder was misplayed allowing Chapman to race home. Wilson cut the lead in half with a run of their own in the bottom of the first inning.
Neither team was able to generate scoring opportunities over the next two innings. In the top of the fourth, White got aboard on a base-on-balls and Andrew Dameron and Ross Meadows both singled to load the bases. That didn’t last long as Dewsey Meadows cleared the bases with a long triple. Wilson again responded with a run in their half of the fourth, but Trinity led 5-2 at that point.
After a scoreless fifth inning, Dameron walked and eventually scored with Buchannon’s hard hit grounder could not be safely handled allowing Dameron to score. Wilson, who seemed to respond every time Trinity scored, once again found the scoreboard. With one inning yet to play, Trinity led by a 6-3 margin.
Trinity was unable to increase their lead in the top of the seventh, but Wilson managed to close the gap but not with enough to win or force extra innings.
Buchannon collected two of Trinity’s seven hits. Chapman pitched the first three innings giving up two runs and six hits. White closed the game by pitching the final four innings giving up two runs on only one hit and striking out six batters.
