Thornwell School for the Arts hosts successful mother and daughter event
Family and friends gathered recently at Thornwell School for the Arts (TSA) for the school’s annual Miss and Little Miss Heart of TSA mother and daughter pageant.
Hosted by Hartsville Middle School, the pageant consisted of talent, formal wear and casual wear events as well as a question-and-answer session. TSA students showcased artwork and vocal talents during the event.
By night’s end, Alexsis Washington and parent Shakera Washington were crowned by last year’s winners Zykiyah McClain and parent Charleen Gardner-McClain. Miss Hartsville Catherine Wong and Miss Teen Hartsville Randi Gamble also assisted with the crowning.
“I enjoyed my experienced with the pageant,” Washington said. “Alexsis and I decided that we would participate in the pageant in honor of my grandmother, who passed away from cancer two years ago. Participating in this pageant was fun and allowed my daughter and I to have an experience of remembrance.”
Evette McCaskill and fifth-grader Journei Sawyer were named first runners-up, while Cachet McCall and first-grader Tia McCall were named second runners-up.
TSA Principal Dr. Lilkenya Jenkins praised those who participated and described the purpose of the event.
“This pageant has once again provided us with the opportunity to recognize the beautiful relationship between mother and daughter,” Jenkins said. “Through this special event, we’re creating memories that our mothers and daughters will cherish for a lifetime.”
