The Jungle Roars at Lamar Elementary School

The jungle was jumpin’ with a jazzy beat at Lamar Elementary School as first and second-grade students presented Disney’s The Jungle Book KIDS on Wednesday, May 3.

Banished by the tiger, Shere Khan (Tristen Collins), a human boy named Mowgli (DQ Green) and his panther friend, Bagherra (Kenniah Tucker), are on the run in the deepest parts of the jungle. While on their journey, the two meet a snake named Kaa, a herd of elephants and a big bear named Baloo (Gabby Mendiola), who teaches them the swingin’ musical rhythms of the jungle.

After surviving a dangerous encounter with a band of monkeys led by King Louie (Mia Braddock), Mowgli and Bagherra are forced to run for their lives. When Shere Khan returns, our heroes must rally their fellow animals into battle and restore peace throughout the jungle.

Shanti (Mandy Iseman), a beautiful young girl who has been hiding in the jungle the whole time, finally reveals herself. She offers to take Mowgli to her village to meet other people just like him. Mowgli decides to explore the “man village” with Shanti, but reminds his friends he will return, for he will always consider the Jungle his home.

The musical production was funded by a grant from the Darlington County Education Foundation. The grant was written by Dee Driggers (art teacher) and Dawn Dover (music teacher) from Lamar Elementary School.
