Suspected drunk driver smashes Darlington County deputy vehicle

A Darlington County Sheriff’s Office Deputy’s patrol car was struck on January 1, 2016 by a suspected drunk driver. The suspect also had a small child in the vehicle.

According to Sheriff Wayne Byrd, the wreck happened on East Billy Farrow Highway when the deputy was hit from behind by a suspected drunk driver. The deputy was taken to an area hospital for treatment of injuries sustained in the accident.

Keith Edward Vinson, 45, of 707 Poplar Street, was arrested by South Carolina Highway Patrol troopers and charged with DUI 2nd, DUS 3rd, Open Container Violation, and Child Endangerment.
Vinson was not injured in the crash, and was released on bond from the Darlington County Detention Center on Friday afternoon, according to the detention center website.
