NASCAR fans are a loyal bunch. They often purchase everything they can find with their favorite driver’s name, number, and image on it. Others, like Darlington’s very own Ina Jean “Dynomite” Gough, have NASCAR fever so much that they spend hours crafting scrapbooks of their favorite drivers.
Gough, or “Dynomite” as she is affectionately known, recently invited the News and Press to see her impressive collection of handcrafted scrapbooks dedicated to her favorite drivers.
She has also amassed an impressive array of other collections, too, including: 237 shotglasses; 380 thimbles; 132 spoons, including all U.S. states; 50 decorative bells; 185 snowglobes;and a scrapbook for each year of her life, beginning with her first at the age of 12.
She saves things and preserves them with such care, that thumbing through her albums makes the viewer think to themselves, “Goodness, I just keep my photos in a box!”
Stay tuned for more from “Dynomite” as we get closer to the Bojangles’ Southern 500 race – we are sure that she will have more tales to tell about her most favorite place in the in the world – the Darlington Raceway.
“They all know me there,” she says with a smile. “They know that this year, I’ll be cheering on Jimmie Johnson!”
