Sonoco partners with Red Cross for disaster aid during pandemic
In order to offset the challenges to the American Red Cross of South Carolina’s mission of responding to disasters due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Hartsville-based Sonoco is donating $40,000 to the organization. This partnership will help at this critical moment, the Red Cross said. The 2020 hurricane season is predicted to be the busiest season on record and as the American Red Cross of South Carolina works to prepare for disasters of any kind, this gift and partnership will help meet the needs of the communities in South Carolina. Sonoco is also supporting the Red Cross response to the wildfires along the West Coast. With millions of acres burned, the Red Cross of South Carolina continues to send resources to support. This donation will help the response and recovery efforts of those that continue to watch their communities burn. “As our state and nation continue to grapple with unprecedented circumstances, we are honored to help where we can,” said Howard Coker, Sonoco president and CEO. “At Sonoco, our guiding principle is about ‘Doing the Right Thing.’ Our commitment to doing the right thing naturally extends to the communities where our associates live and work.” To donate, visit redcross.org, call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767) or text the word CORONAVIRUS to 90999.
