Society Hill holds 30th Catfish Festival

Hundreds of people gathered on the lawn of the old St. David’s Academy in Society Hill on Nov. 18 for the 30th annual Catfish Festival. Vendors lined the lawn with everything from BBQ to handbags; the Long Bluff Historical Society even had prints of old Society Hill buildings for sale. Even before 11 a.m. the crowds were lined down the street waiting for the parade to begin. Bands and JRTOC from Lamar, Hartsville and all across the Pee Dee Region marched, proudly supporting their schools and towns. Society Hill Mayor Tommy Bradshaw, Miss South Carolina, Darlington County School Board Member Connell Delaine and several other dignitaries rode the parade route with smiles and waves to the crowd, though the floats throwing candy were the children’s favorites.
