Sheriff’s Department issues scam alert
On May 9, it was reported that an unknown male called people in Darlington County claiming to be with Publishers Clearing House and informed the potential victim that they have won $8,000,000.
The unknown male instructed the victim to go to a local retail store
to place a large amount of money onto a pre-paid debit card and give the caller the debit card
information to collect the winnings.
Publishers Clearing House winnings are always free and you are never required to pay to claim a prize award. Never give out personal information or bank account information over the telephone.
