New Darlington Raceway president Kerry Tharp received a warm welcome last Thursday during a drop-in reception at Todd Hardee’s elegant Darlington eatery, South of Pearl. Guests enjoyed cocktails and wine from the fully-stocked bar and noshed on delicious wings, pulled pork, beef tenderloin, and – in a nod our Southern 500 sponsor – chicken from Bojangles.

By the time Tharp arrived, the restaurant was packed with well-wishers ready to offer their help and friendship to the new track president.

“I’ve had the opportunity to meet so many people in the community, and everybody is so supportive of Darlington Raceway,” said Tharp, whose first official workday was July 18. “People realize how special it is, how much it means to the community, to the state of South Carolina, and how much it means to NASCAR. I am humbled and privileged and honored to have the opportunity to be at this racetrack.” Mobile users, please click link to see more photos by Samantha Lyles: Reception for Kerry Tharp at South of Pearl
