The Pilot Club of Darlington South Carolina celebrated its 70th Anniversary with a special celebration on March 28, 2016. The actual Pilot International Charter that created the Club, was signed on March 28, 1946, making it one of the oldest Pilot Clubs chartered in South Carolina. Through the years the Pilot Club has been a strong and viable community service organization in Darlington. In the beginning they helped race fans find rooms, now they work in the information and hospitality booths at the track. The Pilot Club of Darlington hosts one of the oldest and largest festival events in South Carolina, the SC Sweet Potato Festival. Today’s Club not only supports the PI BrainMinders focus in the schools they sponsor the Anchor Club for high school students. Jamie Horton, Darlington County School District’s Teacher of the Year, speaks to Pilot Club of Darlington

Jamie Horton, Teacher of History at Hartsville High and District Teacher of the Year, was guest speaker at the March program meeting of the Pilot Club of Darlington. Ms. Horton shared the process involved in becoming the District’s Teacher of the Year and what an honor it is to serve in that capacity. She has taught at Hartsville High for two years and in the District for six. Ms. Horton shared the exciting initiatives of the District which will better prepare students for the 21st century, including the technology plans, and the importance of community involvement.
