PDRTA employees win at state competition

The Transportation Association of South Carolina in partnership with the South Carolina Department of Transportation held their annual Bus Roadeo in Myrtle Beach on March 25. The event tests the bus drivers from across the State in a skills competition on an obstacle course as well as bus mechanics on diagnosing and repairing a stalled bus and also finding other defects. The driving competition is among four different categories based on vehicle size. Sixty-two employees from several transportation agencies across South Carolina competed in the event.

The Pee Dee Regional Transportation Authority (PDRTA) earned first place honors in two of the five categories. Ms. Gloria Scott won first place in the van category for the second year in a row while the PDRTA Maintenance Team of Ronnie Newsome, Terry Carraway, and Bo Flowers took home first place in the maintenance competition. .Bus operator Willie McKoy came in third place in the 40-foot bus category.

PDRTA Executive Director Chuck MacNeil was thrilled with the efforts of employees. “I am so happy and proud of all of our PDRTA employees who competed in this fun and challenging event. They are professionals whose skills and abilities for what they do here in Florence each day were showcased on a much bigger stage.”
