Patrol Deputy stops to assist motorist, discovers gun and drugs
During the afternoon hours of August 21, a Darlington County Sheriff’s Patrol Deputy stopped to assist a stranded motorist on W. Bobo Newsome Hwy. in the Hartsville area of Darlington County. The stranded motorist flagged the Deputy down complaining of transmission trouble. When the Deputy approached the vehicle he was able to smell the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle.
Deputies were able to locate a loaded .40 caliber handgun with 30 rounds, 22 grams of marijuana, a scale and small plastic bags inside the vehicle. Joseph Dylan McLain, 25, of McBee was arrested for possession with intent to distribute marijuana and unlawful carrying of a handgun.
