Laverne W. McKnight
DARLINGTON – Laverne W. McKnight, 68, passed away Sunday, May 12, 2019.

Funeral services were May 15 at Darlington First Church of God with burial at Grove Hill Cemetery. The family received friends Tuesday at Belk Funeral Home, and other times at the home, 405 Arabian St., Darlington.

Laverne was born Nov. 16, 1950. He was the son of the late Brunson O. McKnight and Mildred Lynch McKnight.

He retired from Nucor Steel after 40 years. Laverne enjoyed being with his family, fishing, camping, going to flea markets and was a father figure to many people. He was a member of Darlington First Church of God.

Surviving are his wife, Faye F. McKnight; children, Vernon (Missy) McKnight, Regenia (Trent) Avin, Shannon McKnight, Cathy (Junior) Campbell, Johnny Ray (Kelly) Anderson and Shawn Anderson, all of Darlington; grandchildren, Dawson and Abby McKnight, Ashley, Rian and Grace Avin, Shelby and Dusty Campbell, Chelsy (Tyler) Sandifer, Savannah and Emily Anderson, Austin Anderson, Gradyn Beasley, and seven great-grandchildren.

Also surviving are his brother, Jay D. (Dannette) McKnight of Sumter; sisters, Connie McKnight of Camden, Dorothy McKnight of Hartsville, Mary (Joey) Holloway of Darlington, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his siblings, Shelby Anderson, Mildred McKnight, Richard McKnight and Ronnie McKnight.

Amy Chaplin Cowick
DARLINGTON – Amy Ann Chaplin Cowick, 23, died Monday, May 13, 2019. Funeral services were Friday, May 17, in the chapel at Belk Funeral Home. The family received friends Friday at the funeral home, and other times at the home, 2681 Indian Branch Road, Hartsville.

Amy was born Feb. 20, 1996, in Florence. She was the daughter of Arthur “Ricky” Freeman Chaplin Jr. and Paula O’Neal Chaplin.

She will be remembered as a “unique” outgoing individual who loved her family very much.

In addition to her parents, Arthur “Ricky” Chaplin Jr. and Paula O’Neal Chaplin of Darlington, she is survived by her children, Ayden, Ansley and Noah Cowick; her twin sister, Amber Chaplin (Michael) of Columbia; her half-sister, Nicole Holland; niece, McKenzie Holland, both of Summerville; her aunts and uncles, Frank (Teresa) Chaplin, Johnny (Gloria) Howle, Timothy (Janet) O’Neal, and close family friends, Sandra (David) Cortes, Kim (Bill) Medley and Megan Holloway.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ruben Cowick; paternal grandparents, Margaret Ann and Mickey Chaplin; her maternal grandparents, Judith Suggs and William O’Neal.

Norton James
DARLINGTON — Norton H. James, 82, of Darlington, died Friday, May 17, 2019. A graveside service was held at 11 a.m. Monday, May 20, in Grove Hill Cemetery, directed by Belk Funeral Home.

The family received friends following the graveside service and other times at 216 Green Drive, Darlington.

Born in Horry County in 1937, Mr. James was the son of the late Joseph Richard James and the late Jewell Hucks James.

He retired from Merita Bread Company/American Bakeries and was an avid Clemson football fan. He was a member of Epworth United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Annie Lou Weinberg James, a son, Scott James (Pam Nesselhauf), all of Darlington, his siblings, Dotty (Buddy) Rogers of Darlington, Bobby James of Darlington, Loretta (Ted) Leonard of Hayes, Va., and Patricia Jones of Darlington.

He was preceded in death by his son, Bryan Dudley James, and siblings Parmalee James, Richard James, Lavinia Page, Orville James and Huxley James.
