Wallace Herman DeMaurice

Wallace Herman DeMaurice passed away in Blacksburg, Va., on Thursday, May 23, 2019.

Memorial services were Saturday, June 1, at Belk Funeral Home in Darlington. Mr. DeMaurice was born Sept. 8, 1936, the son of the late Rene William “Frenchy” DeMaurice and the late Laura May Flanigan DeMaurice of Darlington.

He attended St. John’s High School in Darlington and served in the Army National Guard and the Air Force. In 1961, Wallace married his high school sweetheart, Nancy Phyllis Gilchrist, at Trinity United Methodist Church in Darlington.

They began their married life together in Florence. Wallace worked for the National Weather Service for over 40 years, during which time they lived in Darlington, Oriental, N.C., Raleigh, N.C., Wilmington, N.C., Buxton N.C., and Charleston.

Wallace and Nancy were passionate about sailing and made many trips in their sailboat, especially while living in Wilmington and Buxton. Wallace retired in the summer of 2000 while living in Charleston but continued to work as a contractor at the Weather Service for several more years.

In 2012 Wallace and Nancy moved to Salem, Va., to be closer to their son and other family members.

He is survived by his loving family, son Andre S. DeMaurice, daughter-in-law Stephanie S. DeMaurice, grandchildren Paul, James and Andrea DeMaurice, sister-in-law Cynthia Gilchrist Ranio, nephews and nieces: William Ervin Bryant, Bubba DeMaurice, Ann Lambert, Robin Harris, Jim Peterson, John Peterson, Jaclyn S. Vames, Alan L. Ranio, and Megan L. Ranio.

Mr. DeMaurice was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Gilchrist DeMaurice, brother R.W. “Billy” DeMaurice Jr., sister Laura Marie D. Bryant, sister Marguerite Suzanne DeMaurice Peterson, and nephew Richard M. “Dicky” Bryant.

Agnes Grice Davis

DARLINGTON — Agnes Grice Davis, 87, died Friday, May 24, 2019, at home surrounded by family.

The family had visitation May 29 at Belk Funeral Home. A burial will take place at a later date in Pireway, N.C.

Born in Pireway, she was the daughter of the late Lonnie and Mazell Bozeman Grice. She was a devoted housewife and mother who enjoyed working in her gardens, fishing and spending time with her grandchildren.

Mrs. Davis was a member of Pine Grove United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her children: Malcolm (Rachel) Davis, Teresa Davis, Lannie Davis, Phyllis (Russell) Brown, Frances (Chuck) Kelly, Melinda Willis, Mavis Conner, Nada Lindstrom, Marty Davis, April (Jamey) Benehaley, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, siblings, Davis “T-Boo” (Joanne) Grice, Willard (Rhonda) Grice and Shirley Bass, also a special friend, Ray Wilson.

She was preceded in death by her husband Perry Davis Jr. and siblings, Maxie Grice and Lura Jane Buck.
