New volunteers take the Oath of Service to be a Guardian ad Litem

On July 18, 2022, The Honorable Sally McIntyre, Family Court Judge for the Fourth Judicial Circuit, led Ms. Hallie Harvin and Angela Berdeau through the oath of service to be Guardians ad Litem (GAL).
These newly appointed Guardians ad Litem join other dedicated community members who have been trained and are advocating for foster children in the Family Court system. The primary purpose of each Guardian ad Litem (GAL) is to represent the best interests of the child during the court proceedings. This requires each GAL to see the child monthly and interview other people who have contact with the child. The GAL must also determine what the child would like to happen and the child’s immediate safety.. The GAL then reports this information to the Family Court judge at scheduled hearings, along with a recommendation on the best course of action for the child.
