Miss S.C. Sweet Potato Festival Teen Payton Lang finished in the “Top 10” out of 62 contestants recently in the Miss South Carolina Teen pageant in Columbia.

Lang also captured the Miss South Carolina Teen media award, for having the most media points and coverage for the contestants.

This is the second year in a row that Miss S.C. Sweet Potato Festival Teen has finished among the top 10 contestants.
The local pageant in its second year of existence is now an official Miss South Carolina and Miss South Carolina Teen along with Miss America and Miss America’s Outstanding Teen preliminaries.

The Miss America Organization is the largest provider for scholarships for women in the world, and Darlington native Will Isgett directs the Miss S.C. Sweet Potato Festival pageant.

“I am thrilled to have come home with another top ten teen finish, and especially the media award this year,” Isgett said. “I want to thank everyone who made this possible including the News and Press and the Darlington Pilot Club.”

The new Miss South Carolina Teen is Sarah Hamrick, who represented Hilton Head Island. She will advance to the Miss America’s Outstanding Teen pageant in August in Orlando, Florida.

Miss S.C. Sweet Potato Festival Caitlan Walzer and Miss Falcon Murphy Lee both represented their titles with dignity and grace; although neither placed, they both enjoyed the experience.

The new Miss South Carolina is Daja Dial, who represented Greenville County. She will represent the state at the Miss America pageant in September in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

The 2015-2016 Miss S.C. Sweet Potato Festival and Miss S.C. Sweet Potato Festival Teen pageants will be held on September 20 at 4 p.m. at St. John’s Elementary School Auditorium.
