Michael Drew Atkinson Jr.
A Celebration of Life for Michael Drew Atkinson Jr. was held at 2 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 15, 2021, at the Atkinson home, 625 Bethlehem Rd. The Rev. Jake Sanderson officiated and the family received friends following the service. Casual dress was observed. Drew entered into rest on Saturday, Nov. 13, 2021. Born in Florence, he was the son of Michael Drew Atkinson Sr. and Glenda Byrd Atkinson. He was a member of Antioch Baptist Church. Drew was a 2000 graduate of Mayo High School for Math, Science and Technology. He attended the Atlanta College of Art and Francis Marion University. Surviving are his parents of Hartsville, paternal aunts Judy (Mitch Olinger) Armstrong and Robin (Dennis) Johnson; paternal uncles, Billy (Frankie) Atkinson and David (Lisa) Atkinson; maternal aunt, Judy (Tony) McDaniel; step-grandmother, Susan B. Grubbs, and special cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Lorrain and Lois Byrd and William (Doc) and Patsy Atkinson; and uncles, Donald Byrd and Richard Byrd. Special thanks to Dr. Shahzad Hassan and Dr. Nada Tazi of MUSC and caregiver Shameeka Washington of McLeod Hospice for their exemplary care during his illness. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to McLeod Hospice.
