Melody Starr Krejci

HARTSVILLE — Melody Starr Krejci, 73, of Hartsville passed away on Oct. 16, 2021. She was born on Dec. 28, 1947, in Litchfield, Ohio, to Sarah Starr (Domer) and Cornell Starr. Melody lived in Michigan and Ohio until 1994 when she relocated to Darlington and eventually to Hartsville. Melody taught middle school and high school English in the area for 20 years. Melody is survived by her sister, Sherry Sanchez (Starr) of Santa Fe, N.M., her brother Jay Starr of Columbia City, Ind., and her sons Mike Kitchen of Hudson, Ohio, Scott Krejci of New Philadelphia, Ohio, Chris Krejci of Youngstown, Ohio, and Andy Krejci of Medina, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her parents, second husband Tom Krejci and sons Marc Kitchen and Tom Krejci Jr. Melody loved reading, music, traveling and cats her whole life. Her love of cats was evident with her own pets and house décor. Always with a book in her hand, she passed on her love of reading and literature to thousands of middle and high school students. She was a national board certified teacher who published student writing and artwork in the Silver Ink Pen. Melody played piano and sang in various choirs. Throughout her lifetime, Melody studied abroad and traveled the United States, Mexico and Ireland. A memorial service was held Nov. 6 at St. Bartholomew’s Church at 103 Campus Drive, Hartsville. Light refreshments were served at Sam Kendal’s at 134 East Carolina Ave. in Hartsville. A wake will be held at Belk Funeral Home at 229 West Broad Street in Darlington Nov. 12 from 12 to 2. Burial will be in Spring Grove Cemetery in Medina, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, people are asked to bring a novel to be donated. A guestbook is available online at www.belkfuneralhome.com.
